The Nancy Guillory Award

TXAPT honored the dedication and passion for play therapy by naming an award after Nancy Guillory. Nancy graduated from Sam Houston State University, studying play therapy under Dr. Emily Oe. While still working as a kindergarten teacher while awaiting a school counselor position, Nancy continued to travel back to the university to volunteer her time to provide play therapy for children in the community at the university clinic. Nancy was involved in the establishment of the first TXAPT Chapter, Sam Houston, of greater Houston. She coauthored an article in the International Journal for Play Therapy and presented at an APT Conference. Her dedication to and passion for play therapy was apparent to all. Nancy died unexpectedly in 1994 at 45, of a medical emergency. Everyone who knew her was impacted with this untimely loss. The first Nancy Guillory Award was given in 1996 to Dr. Emily Oe, Nancy's friend and mentor.
