TxAPT was established in 1993 as a branch of the national organization, the Association for Play Therapy (APT). TxAPT’s purpose is to promote play therapy while providing credibility to the profession. TxAPT seeks to promote and advance the use of evidence-based play therapy practices, while advocating for the rights of children and their families. These goals are accomplished in the following ways:
Education & Training – Conduct, encourage, and foster educational trainings, meetings, workshops and the credentialing of registered play therapists at the local, state and national level.
Annual Conference – Host an annual conference providing CE hours, which includes training in ethics and supervision.
Communication – Connect with our membership, the mental health community, and the general public through newsletters, emails, and social media.
Research and Awards – Advance evidence-based practices of play therapy by supporting research through the Dan E. Homeyer Research Award and the Nancy Guillory Award. Other awards include the Lonestar Award and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award.
If you are not currently a member of APT, TxAPT, and your local chapter, we encourage you to join our community of 1000+ play therapists as we strive to provide high quality play therapy interventions for the children and families we serve.
