Meeting Schedule and CEUs. The North Texas Chapter meets almost monthly from August through May. The board meets in June for an extensive planning session to prepare for the upcoming year. We are offering 6 two hour trainings this year including our day long 6-hour Winter Workshop. We currently have 95 members, and our annual membership fee is $35.
Lone Star Award. One again, the North Texas Chapter received the Lone Star Award. Congratulations!
- Dee Ray,LPC-S, RPT-S, presented Child-Development and Themes in the Play Room to a sold out crowd at the Winter Workshop in Grapevine on January 24, 2015.
- On February 21, 2015, Judith E. Beecher, D., LPCS, NCC talked about the issue of child abuse, the effects of witnessing domestic violence and how the use of play therapy is an effective therapeutic tool for counselors in response.
- On March 28, 2015, Jenifer Ware, Ph.D., LPC-S, RPT-S & Twila Farrar, M.Ed., LPC-Intern presented on conducting play therapy with children and adolescents diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can be challenging, but with the proper training, therapist can play a valuable role in the individual’s overall treatment. This presentation demonstrated how traditional play therapy, mixed with behavioral therapy, can be effective working with individuals dealing with ASD, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), dysregulation issues, and developmental disabilities.
- On May 23, 2015, Kristina Stephens, M.A., LPC, presented Grief-Busters: Playing Your Way through Grief and Loss. She discussed myths associated with grieving children and teens while discussing grief at the different ages and stages of life. Attendees were exposed to many aspects of grieving children and teens while learning various play therapy techniques used to promote growth.
